Hawaii offers so much land to explore, there is no way one family can get all of it done in two weeks. But for two weeks, my family and I explored the big island as much as we possibly could. Firstly, we decided a hike was the best way to start off our adventures. A semi-challenging hike down onto this short downward hike into a valley right outside the small town of Kohala resulted in some man-made giant rope swings hanging from trees all around. These swings were safe to use. My family consists of all adults, but this is perfect for any age to have fun with.
Another cool hiking adventure to try out is hiking up to a dormant volcano Kilauea Iki trail, of which you can cross! Amazingly, you can see steam pockets rising out from here and there and feel the mass of the volcano beneath your feet.
Also, the Akaka Falls State Park is an easy walk through and what feels like scenes straight from Fern Gully. We came across this well-known and massive waterfall that many can’t believe when they see.
Want something with a little more action to it? You can take the whole family zip lining through this awesome company called Kohala Zipline. The staff was extremely friendly and made sure everyone felt safe at all times. Plus, you get to really see the island when flying through a tropical environment.
After so much exploring, we needed a good meal. The Lava Lava Beach Club has the most amazing view of the ocean while you eat your dinner on the beach. This is where a family can make memories while enjoying a breathtaking sunset.
This is a small taste of all the different activities a family can dive into on the beautiful islands of Hawaii, but some great options to experience.
